We often face difficulties and trials in our lives. Whether a car accident, a burglary, sickness or any other calamity befalls us, although we suffer and undergo difficulty at the time, we seldom realize that often there is actually great benefit and wisdom in the difficulty. Hence, we should instantly hold firm to sabr (patience) and hope for reward from Allah Ta‘ala.

As a young children, many of us were dragged to the dentist. Once at the surgery, despite our protests, we were seated on the chair and made to open our mouths, after which the dentist carried out ‘unspeakable atrocities’ against us. Scaling, polishing, filling and worst of all – injecting and extracting – are some of the horrors that we were made to undergo. To our disappointment and dismay, our emphatic appeals to our parents to bring an end to the torture simply fell on deaf ears, and they even went as far as to side with the dentist, scolding us and telling us to sit still! To add insult to injury, while we nursed our wounds, they thanked the ‘torturer’ and paid him handsomely for what he had done!

Now, as adults, we look back, in retrospect, and realize that the dentist was actually a blessing in disguise. Had he not treated us, we would have probably lost some of our teeth – a loss that would have plagued us for the rest of our lives. Thus, although we did not understand it at the time, the difficulty that we suffered was actually for the best.

Similarly, we often face difficulties and trials in our lives. A few decades ago, a man from Durban was at the Jeddah airport, returning home from hajj. Inexplicably, the airport staff rejected his ticket, although he had followed the procedure and regulation of the time by going to the airline offices and confirming the ticket prior to the flight. The officials refused to allow him to board the aircraft. This man was naturally upset and could not understand why he had been denied his seat on the plane.

Hardly an hour had passed, when this man learned that the plane in which he was originally meant to travel had crashed and all the passengers had tragically passed away! He was now relieved and grateful, realizing that although his ordeal had seemed to be a difficulty at the time, it was actually Allah Ta‘ala’s divine intervention to save him from the plane crash.

If, when afflicted with calamities and difficulties we adopt sabr, remain pleased with the decision of Allah Ta‘ala and do not complain of the circumstances, then Allah Ta‘ala rewards us for these actions of sabr and submission. Furthermore, difficulty is sometimes sent our way in order to ward off a far greater calamity that was otherwise destined to befall us. Simply because we fail to comprehend the benefit and wisdom behind the difficulty, it does not mean that it is not there.

Whenever we face a difficulty in future, let our first reaction be that of sabr and happiness with the decision of Allah Ta‘ala

I have flown into that airport a couple of times and I can tell you of a fact that it's Runway is horribly short and is a disaster in waiting. The current Minister for Power aircraft over ran that Runway last year. The airport is overdue for an upgrade at least to allow bigger Aircraft to use the place. Thinking ahead may justify why it should be upgraded to accommodate international flights.

If there's presidential approval, the bearing of arms is legal in itself. The firearms act allows the president to issue licenses for prohibited firearms. Nevertheless their legal status is shaky at best. Since no act of parliament established it, it means that bearing of arms is on a personal basis. It means that each person will have his own license and using the guns in context of their employment in the FAAN is either ambiguous or illegal

All in all, this is a useless move. These people are just looking for a way to carry weapons. Every government agency wants to carry weapons. Very soon now they will following their oga in a siren hilux truck and the oga will be feeling like a general. In a scathing critique, a former presidential aide, Laolu Akande, has highlighted the Dangote Refinery as both a testament to Nigerian capability and a stark example of governmental failure.

Drawing attention to the refinery’s completion in record time and at a fraction of the cost $6 billion as Dangote disclosed while speaking during his appearance at the recent Afrexmbank’s AGM in The Bahamas, compared to $25 billion said to have been spent on the turnaround management (TAM) of failed state-owned refineries, Akande lamented Nigeria’s chronic mismanagement in public sectors such as healthcare, education, and infrastructure.

Speaking during his latest edition of “Inside Sources with Laolu Akande” on Channels TV on Friday, the veteran journalist in his analysis titled “What a Nigerian can do versus the Striving of our statehood,” highlighted the stark contrast between Nigeria’s potential, showcased by achievements abroad, and its domestic challenges.

Akande pointed out Nigeria’s export of highly skilled professionals in fields like medicine and literature, juxtaposed against dismal domestic services and educational standards, mentioning acclaimed figures like Dr. Olayinka Oluloye and Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka, underscoring the irony of their global success amidst local neglect.

In his widely circulated talk show, Akande passionately criticised Nigeria’s systemic failures that prevent the country from replicating the sterling achievements of Nigerians abroad at home, as has commended Aliko Dangote for his unwavering commitment that culminated in the successful completion of his refinery project.

He began by illustrating Nigeria’s global contributions, stating, “Let’s take the doctors for instance, doctors from Nigeria are part of an outstanding healthcare delivery system in many countries abroad. We have names like Dr. Olayinka Oluloye, who achieved the rare surgical feat operating successfully on a fetus in Texas, and Dr. Phil Osua, who leads one of the biggest healthcare organizations in New York, both of them in the US.”

He highlighted the acknowledgment from a former US president, emphasising how Nigerian professionals abroad significantly contribute to global healthcare systems, contrasting sharply with the struggles of Nigeria’s local healthcare delivery.


“There was in fact an acknowledgement by former US president who said that Chicago healthcare can’t possibly be what it is today were it not for the Nigerian doctors. But what is the situation with our healthcare delivery at home? At best, it’s a massive struggle. On the literary front,” Akande said.

“On the literary front,” Akande continued, “There are at least two Nigerian writers Chinua Achebe and Wole Soyinka, not to mention the more recent Chimamanda Adichie. They lead the literary world. In fact, Achebe’s book, ‘Things Fall Apart,’ has been translated into several foreign languages and is considered among the top 100 books of the last century.”

“Now, there are tons and tons of Nigerians with similar outstanding records at home and abroad in various fields of human endeavor,” Akande remarked.

“Take another example, Bayo Ogunlesi, a Nigerian who rose to the top of global investment banking and is now a part-owner of Gatwick airport,” Akande said.

He then turned his attention to Nigeria’s governance, criticising past leaders for grandiose yet unfulfilled projects such as Nigeria Air, contrasting sharply with the success of individuals like Aliko Dangote.

“So, we see one of the most definitive collective indictments of our existence, in how we govern ourselves and the mediocrity that we have tolerated in many facets of our public life,” Akande observed.

He said, “Let’s take a recent example, the way we run down publicly procured oil refineries in the country and bungled every effort and attempt to rehabilitate them in the last two decades.”

Akande underscored the contrast between the struggling state-owned refineries and Dangote’s private initiative, saying, “While we all watch our refineries go to nought in the last two decades, especially just one of us, Aliko Dangote, has built the world’s largest refinery in this country. He did it with less than $6 billion, according to him.”

“Compare that to how much we spent on turnaround maintenance of the refineries that are not working in the last two decades, over ($)25 billion according to the House of Reps, yet, not all of our refineries are working right now. But the private Dangote refinery built at less cost in less time is now up and running.

“So we can congratulate ourselves, but just a shame. It comes together, ironically. So as we celebrate the Dangote refinery as a proof that Nigerians are well and able to do great things, and as we encourage ourselves that Nigeria can’t possibly fail, with citizens made up of such stellar stuff, like Dangote, Let us also realize that we can no longer leave politics in the hands of our politicians anymore,” Akande said.

He informed as Dangote revealed, “International bankers tried and told Dangote no more funding, mafias at home and abroad try to frustrate him, yet, he was on face, but it’s just one Nigeria billionaire who has a sense of mission and commitment. And he had the support of other Nigerians like Benedict Orama and the late Herbert Wigwe. And there he has completed the refinery. But our government can’t even fix one refinery as yet.”

As a result to hasten development from within, Akande called for increased citizen participation in governance and transparency, urging Nigerians to take proactive roles in shaping the nation’s future.

“Imagine how much we can do if we only sought out our politics,” Akande implored.

“Imagine how quickly we can resolve the problems and many of our challenges if and when we get the critical mass of well-meaning Nigerians involved in our public life and our national life. Just imagine there’s only one way to change this,” Akande said.

The former presidential aide concluded with a call to action, stressing the need to combat corruption and promote accountability in Nigeria’s public institutions.

“No more sidon look, no more political apathy, especially from people in the middle class,” Akande asserted.

“We must oil our politics with accountability and transparency. We must take the fight against corruption seriously. EFCC must remain fired up, ICPC too, and all of our enforcement agencies, we must end the impunity which continues to deny us the righteousness that exalts a nation. We must start doing it now,” Akande charged.

1, No amount of money u carry come will get u financially prepared for what you will face financially when u get here.
Today's amount rate of dollar to naira, if u come here to come buy anything, fear go catch u when u convert am to naira equivalent. U no need seel ur papa last land to come here carry the small change u get come just make sure say e go last u 3 months minimum just Incase u no know anybody here as per JJC.

2. Before u leave 9ja try as much as possible to read about everything u can about the state and area ur school is located, try and know the major busy spots in that locations i.e, restaurants, bars, bakery, recreational parks, hospitals etc. All this you can do via Google just try and know some major things about the town B4 u land trust me it will help I will tell u later on.

3. Even after u secure ur admission ND visa, try as much as possible to keep in constant communication with the school via email, make sure they know you departure and arrival date at the us. Infact breakdown ur travel intent for them to know it will help you on this two major grounds I sublist below:

a, Incase u are having issues at the port of entry with the border protection officer, I have seen this happen before they will stop you just for no reason and ask you questions like where are you going to, who are you going to meet and the reason you come here. If you can not answer those questions correctly and as well provide contact information of the school they might send you back home. So in summary, if that happens to you and the BP officer reaches out to the school, they will be able to confirm you as one of their student and tell them exactly where and when u will arrive so you have a solid case..
My own village people no follow me reach that side I use central market distract them so I cross am easily.

b, the school might even provide you free transportation ride from the airport to the school if they have your schedule with them it is considered a vip treat for you all international students 😁.

4, no go waste all ur money buy cloths save every dime u can just carry ur natives them and few old clothes come just buy one nice shoe wear come.

5, as soon as you land school, take note this will help u alot.. trust me on this..

First thing to do is go for your international student orientation then go and register for classes.
Then immediately after that, go to the student employment office center and apply for a job. It doesn't matter what type of job u get first on campus. I.e, some campus jobs are great less stressed while some go stress u die just get one. By law, international student are able to work 20hrs a week to my best knowledge unless dem don change am because I no know again I now work full time because I am pass that stage.
So we continue... So as a soon as u secure job, by law if u get any job for America u must get social security number which is a must. But here is the trick because u are only allowed to to work 20hrs a week, u will be given a social security card which is only for work with some certain restrictions. But here is the catch.
It comes with a lot of benefits so I will try and break them down real quick.

If you able to secure a job ( you have to act quick because sometimes job positions are taken quick so no go dull) you will be given a letter to take to the social security office for you social security card/number application. Go there do ur paper work pay the fee not that expensive depending on the state u are prices varies.
Apply and get ur card although it takes about a week or two to get. it when it arrives your mailbox, rush to the nearest Drivers licensing registration office in your county, go with you international passport ur new social security card and proof of address and apply for a driver's license. ( You need to take a short exam and a driving test to pass and get ur drivers license). With ur license now in ur possession, u can no drop ur passport at home u no go dey carry am Waka again Incase police stop u for road.
Finally I know say all the money u carry come go don finish on bills no money for food etc. Use ur SSN and driver's license apply for discovery credit card. U get $1500 minimum use am dey survive no go over do just use for food and pay back every month amount due it will help u build ur credit score for the future.
